One of my other obsessions is Firepower. This is a little gem of a museum, hidden away in Woolwich Arsenal down by the Thames. Its other title, The Museum of The Royal Artillery, makes it sound dull, ho hum, another regimental museum, some uniforms and medals and maybe a sword and ceremonial cannon or two.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Yes, there are medals, including the medal for Conspicuous Gallantry won recently by Lance Bombadier Gary Prout in Afganistan which he kindly donated to the museum. But there is also a complete historical collection of artillery weapons from Roman times to guided weapons systems of the Cold War and after. Most of the guns and vehicles on display are real pieces which have seen active service.
